HERE’S HOW IT WORKS
Hello, I'm Ioan – I'm a mural creator and illustrator. My hand-painted artistic and scenic designs are suitable for walls of all sizes and budgets, both interior and exterior. All I need is your idea or theme and I can do the rest.
I’m happy to design patterns, landscapes, cityscapes, maps, figures, creatures and everything in between. My work is suitable for community spaces, schools, nurseries, offices, care homes, hospitals, workplaces, private homes – bringing colour and life to all kinds of spaces and transforming the environment for all.
I have a post-graduate certificate in therapeutic arts and I’m happy to develop and deliver participatory mural projects, working with people within residential and healthcare settings. (See ‘Home’ and ‘Happy Garden’.)
I use high-quality, non-toxic, low-odour, fast-drying acrylic emulsion paints that last approximately 7+ years.
why murals?
Murals can be transformative: creating areas for new social interactions, converting spaces into opportunities for expression and making the most of places that have mostly been ignored and forgotten.
For me, making murals is a therapeutic activity. Seeing people’s ideas and their voices coming alive is empowering and rewarding. Participatory murals are a fantastic way to promote confidence and practical skills, where we all gain huge satisfaction from completing a task successfully. And in general, having art around can increase your sense of wellbeing, bringing colour and life to otherwise plain spaces.

My mural process starts with a free consultation of around 30 minutes, where I’ll ask a few questions about your needs and requirements. From this information, I’ll produce a no-obligation quote that’s valid for 30 days.
Before our consultation, I’ll ask you to measure the dimensions of your mural space and consider an idea or theme you might be looking for. If you have something specific in mind, it helps to have some image references handy too. Please note, outdoor murals are weather dependent and rain/snow may affect my schedule of work.

MURAL DESIGN
1. Once we’ve discussed your mural idea or theme and agreed the cost + payment terms, I’ll create a black ’n’ white digital design with colour swatches for you to review.
2. We’ll then discuss your initial thoughts and preferences, and I’ll be happy to make up to three changes before we agree the final design and colours.
3. After this, I’ll create a digital colour version of the design for you to approve. And then start the painting process!
THE PAINTING PROCESS
– Repair and prime the mural surface –
– Pencil in the design, using a projector where practical –
– Paint in the background and characters –
– Add details to achieve the final look –
Optional: if required, I can also varnish the mural for additional protection.
This is recommended if the mural is in a public space or an exposed location.
PAYMENT TERMS
Payment is due on receipt of invoice.
